Anderson Cooper Smacks Down MyPillow CEO For Pushing Poisonous Plant Extract As A COVID-19 Therapeutic!

Anderson Cooper just gave the MyPillow CEO a rude awakening!

In an interview on Tuesday, CNN’s resident Silver Fox slammed CEO Mike Lindell for pushing oleandrin — a chemical compound found in the highly toxic Nerium oleander plant — as a potential therapeutic for COVID-19.

According to the news network, Lindell, a vocal Donald Trump supporter, was recently added to the board of Phoenix Biotechnology, which makes oleandrin, and has received a financial stake in the company. So naturally, Lindell has been pushing the drug like it’s nobody’s business.

During the chat, Lindell claimed he’d given oleandrin to friends and family and it “saved their lives.” But because the entrepreneur wasn’t able to back up his claims whatsoever, the cable news icon wasn’t buying it. Calling his guest a “snake oil salesman,” Coop said:

“You really are a snake oil salesman. I mean, you could be in the Old West standing on a box telling people to drink your amazing elixir that there’s no proof [of].”

Of course, Lindell didn’t back down. He told the host, “I do what Jesus has me do” — to which Anderson replied:

“You think Jesus wants you out here promoting remedies that … [have] never been tested?”

Lindell went on to claim that the drug had been tested, but failed to provide details on the test he was referring to when pressed about it. He claimed that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has had the research since April, but the FDA has yet to confirm this.

He continued during his interview:

“One hundred percent, you’re just misconstrued, because the media is trying to take away this amazing cure that works for everyone… Why would I do this? Ask yourself why would I ruin my reputation if I didn’t believe in this product?”

In response, Cooper postulated Lindell is pushing the drug for money, and added that he doesn’t think the MyPillow CEO has a good reputation to ruin. Watch the clips (below) to see the snake oil salesman squirm!

As for Trump, Lindell said he participated in a July meeting at the White House regarding the use of oleandrin as a potential coronavirus treatment. But POOTUS didn’t seem as excited about the drug during a presser on Monday.

When asked about oleandrin, Trump told reporters:

“We’ll look at it. We’re looking at a lot of different things. I will say the FDA has been great. They are very close. We’re very close to a vaccine. Very close to a therapeutic. I have heard that name mentioned, we’ll find out.”

Meanwhile, medical professionals are coming out of the woodwork with a different message about oleandrin: it’s a poison, not a COVID-19 cure. In an article for PBS, medical ethnobotanist Cassandra Quave wrote of the plant extract:

“Oleandrin is the chemical that causes the plant’s lethal toxicity. It is known by scientists as a cardiac glycoside, a class of organic compounds with a common feature: They exhibit powerful effects on heart tissue, often with deadly consequences… oleander is particularly dangerous, because ingesting any part of the plant can lead to serious illness and possibly death. What’s more, there is no published scientific evidence on the safety of consuming oleandrin or its plant source, Nerium oleander. It is critical that the Food and Drug Administration and its commissioner, Dr. Stephen Hahn, make certain the public is protected from this poison.”
