This week thousands of Americans were faced with an ethical dilemma when it was revealed the owner of their favorite gym was a Donald Trump supporter.
When they heard Stephen Ross, chairman of SoulCycle and Equinox, was not only in favor of Trump but holding a fundraising dinner for the white supremacist kleptocrat, celebs like Chrissy Teigen and Billy Eichner very publicly canceled their memberships.
And no, it’s not just over “a difference of political opinion.” No one is boycotting companies because the CEOs believe in supply-side economics.

No, this is about a president who is purposely fomenting racist fear and hatred (and incidentally inciting actual violence) in order to acquire power that will make him a profit. This is about actions which are morally indefensible. And you don’t have to be a poly sci major to understand it.
So in the wake of the Equinox exodus, Armie Hammer played provocateur on Twitter on Friday by pointing out another big Trump supporter:
“Hey, while everyone seems to be on this Equinox thing, it might be a good time to mention that one of Trump’s largest financial contributors is the chairman of Marvel Entertainment (Isaac Perlmutter)….. jussayin.”
It’s true. Isaac Perlmutter, the chairman of Marvel Entertainment, is indeed a Trump supporter.
More than that, he’s low-key working for the administration. Or rather the admin is working for him.
Perlmutter is one of three rich guys who have been running the Department of Veterans Affairs from offices at Mar-A-Lago — despite never having served in the military and being under no government oversight.
Seriously. Look it up.
Despite not having any official role, they are guiding all Veterans policies — because Ike and Donnie are pals.
Gross.
But… does this mean we all have to boycott Black Panther 2? And the first gay movie superhero in next year’s The Eternals??
No.
Ike Perlmutter doesn’t have anything to do with Marvel Studios, the guys who make the movies.
As the head of Marvel Entertainment, he used to have say over what happened at Marvel Studios — but a couple years after the Disney buyout, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the architect of the MCU, was able to completely detach the movies from under Perlmutter’s thumb and report directly to Alan Horn and Bob Iger.

Rumor has it, Feige NEEDED to do so for his sanity — because Perlmutter was such a wrongheaded a-hole.
What we know for sure is Ike refused to make female superhero movies, citing infamously bad Catwoman and Supergirl as examples of why they can’t work.
We’ve also heard he made other racist comments and is rumored to be the big force pushing back against other diversity in the films.
But again, that’s just rumor. Currently the Marvel comics are about as diverse as they’ve ever been. So who knows how much input he really has there.
As for why Armie pointed out Marvel in particular as a potential target for boycott?
We’ve definitely seen some speculation online it has something to do with his involvement with rival DC (he’s rumored to be the star of the next Green Lantern movie), but that seems way too petty and self-serving to be true.
