Well, they weren’t lying!
Back in July, a group of hackers known as The Impact Team hacked Ashley Madison — a website for married people looking to cheat on their partners — and stole personal information, including financial records.
At the time, the hackers wanted to show they were serious so they posted a small sample of data they took which included corporate financial documents and maps of the internal network of Avid Life Media — the company that owns and operates the site.

They threatened that if the site wasn’t shut down, they would release all of the information that they stole — and well, one month later, they appear to be good on their word.
Yesterday, there was a large dump of about 9.7 gigabytes worth of data released online that was solely comprised of all the stolen information of the nearly 32 million users on the site.
The data included everything from login details and email addresses to payment transaction information. If that wasn’t enough, the site also released what the different members of the site were looking for.
The hackers released a statement online attempting to condemn Avid Life Media (ALM) for frauds and stated:
“├óΓé¼┬ª 90-95% of actual users are male. Chances are your man signed up on the world’s biggest affair site, but never had one. He just tried to. If that distinction matters.”
They went on to say:
“We have explained the fraud, deceit and stupidity of A.L.M. and their members. Now everyone gets to see their data.”
The release of info also included personal details of members of a second site Established Men which happens to be another deplorable and superficial online destination — this time for women wanting to date rich men.
After the dump of information, ALM released a statement regarding the hack saying:
“This event is not an act of hacktivism, it is an act of criminality. It is an illegal action against the individual members of AshleyMadison.com, as well as any free-thinking people who choose to engage in fully lawful online activities├óΓé¼┬ª We will not sit idly by and allow these thieves to force their personal ideology on citizens around the world. We are continuing to fully cooperate with law enforcement to seek to hold the guilty parties accountable to the strictest measures of the law.”
It’s terrible that so many people’s privacy was invaded in such a way.
On the other hand, if morals weren’t a good enough reason, maybe THIS will give some people another reason to think twice before attempting to have an affair.
