A 22-Year-Old Trans Woman Was Stabbed To Death By Her Father After He Said She Joined A Cult... AKA The Queer Community

This is just tragic on so many levels.
Not only was 22-year-old Bri Golec stabbed to death by her father over the weekend, she was killed for simply being a trans woman.
Ohio Police have arrested Bri’s father Kevin Golec for murder and domestic violence after he claimed Bri’s “cult” was stealing from his home.
Police were called to Kevin’s house in Akron, OH at around 10p.m. last Friday night on reports of a robbery, after receiving the following 911 call from the father:

“They attacked us, they came into our house. I don’t know who did. A bunch of them came in, and attack us in our house f*cking ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ just bring and ambulance! Because I think he’s dead!
He’s in to a cult and all this sh*t. These guys came in. I fought them off. They got him. They got me.”

Upon arrival, authorities determined that there was no break-in, rather a fatal altercation between the father and daughter.
Apparently, the 52-year-old was so transphobic that he saw his daughter’s gender identity as a justification for murder, while simultaneously trying to blame her fellow trans individuals for the crime.
Since the attack, The Human Rights Campaign has released a statement on the untimely death, saying:

“What we do know is that Golec was a drummer and an artist, that their gender presentation was at least occasionally feminine, and that their life was extinguished far too soon.”

We’re sickened that people who identify as queer sometimes have to live in fear… but what’s worse is that Bri is already the seventh transgender person to die violently in 2015, and we’re not even two months in.
