Actors who play cops are doing their part to help out as people worldwide continue to protest police brutality.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress Stephanie Beatriz took to Twitter on Tuesday to urge actors who play law enforcement officers to donate to the National Bail Fund Network, revealing she donated $11,000 to the non-profit organization herself.

Sharing a screenshot of her donation receipt on Twitter, the actress, who stars as Detective Rosa Diaz on the popular sitcom, called on other actors who earn a paycheck by playing cops to do the same. She wrote:
“I’m an actor who plays a detective on tv. If you currently play a cop? If you make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop? I’ll let you do the math. (Thanks @GriffLightning for leading the way).”
A screenshot of her donation receipt to The National Bail Fund, which aims to mitigate incarceration rates through bail reform, reads:
“Thank you for making a contribution to the #FreeThemAll Emergency Response Fund. Your donation will be distributed to a local bail/bond fund in the National Bail Fund Network to get someone free from jail or immigration detention during the COVID-19 crisis.”
Beatriz wasn’t the first cop portrayer to make a donation in support of social justice reform. The actress was inspired by The Tick star Griffin Newman, who urged those who play cops on screen to help out with a donation.
He wrote on Twitter Monday:
“I’m an out-of-work actor who (improbably) played a detective on two episodes of BLUE BLOODS almost a decade ago. If you currently play a cop? If you make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop? I’ll let you do the math.”
Newman went on to share a screenshot of the donations he made to Community Justice Exchange and several ActBlue charities, revealing he donated a total of $11,000.
In a follow-up tweet, he added:
“Blue. Actors. Should. Donate. To. Act. Blue. #BlueActorsActBlue.”
Way to get the ball rolling!
Griffin’s message didn’t just inspire Beatriz: countless fans and followers also made donations of their own — not to mention, the entire cast of Brooklynn Nine-Nine!
Cast members like Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, and Melissa Fumero took to their social accounts on Tuesday to reveal that they, along with their showrunner Dan Goor, made a donation of $100,000 to The National Bail Fund.
They shared in a joint statement:
“The cast and showrunner of ‘Brooklyn 99’ condemn the murder of George Floyd and support the many people who are protesting police brutality nationally Together we have made a $100,000 donation to the National Bail Fund Network.”
