Sometimes it seems like Mike Huckabee just says things to stir up controversy, not because he actually believes them.
This is not one of those times.

A video has just been discovered of the sometimes FoxNews pundit and former Presidential candidate giving a speech at February’s National Religious Broadcasters Convention.
The speech (above) is over three months before Caitlyn Jenner‘s big reveal, so it’s not directed at the Olympian.
But it is targeting the transgender community in general.
During the speech, Huckabee jokes:
“Now, I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in P.E. I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today.’ You’re laughing because it sounds so ridiculous, doesn’t it?”
We wish he was just making awful, ignorant jokes, but he does say that he feels his bases are “under threat.” So this is something he takes seriously.

Unfortunately, that seriousness didn’t translate to him giving the subject a lot of thought.
Instead of getting educated about what it means to be trans and allowing himself to see things from someone else’s perspective, Huckabee would much rather make jokes and promote fear of something he doesn’t understand.
Ick. We actually just feel really sorry for people with this much hate in their hearts.
