Will $63K In Carlee Russell Donations Be Refunded Now??

Oof! CrimeStoppers NOT Refunding $63K In Carlee Russell Donations!!

A lot of money has been raised over a hoax!

After the curious case of Carlee Russell first hit the news, the entire nation was glued to every development. When the Alabama woman was reported missing after an alleged abduction while helping a toddler on the side of I-459, everyone just wanted to see her return home safely. Over $60k was raised through Birmingham Crime Stoppers to help with their search efforts, but now, with new info coming out about the case, it seems that large sum won’t even be needed.

Carlee randomly returned home safely not long after she was reported missing, leaving everyone’s heads spinning. Her boyfriend, Thomar Simmons, first insisted that she’d been fighting for her life over the 49 hours she was missing — but then things got weird. He scrubbed her photos completely from his social media, then he started begging the internet to stop cyberbullying his lady regardless of what it “seems like” she did. See, police found some pretty interesting history in her browser pre-kidnapping, with searches of the movie Taken along with information about Amber Alerts, so needless to say, eyebrows were raised!

With all this stacked up, police and everyone following the case began to have their doubts about what on earth was going on. And amid all of this, Crime Stoppers has released their own statement!

Despite initial reports that donations would be returned after she appeared safe last week, the community program reportedly clarified they would NOT be issuing refunds at the time. According to AL.com, the $63,378 donated would be staying in Crime Stoppers’ pockets:

“This investigation is still ongoing, and accordingly, there is no basis to refund any contributions at this time. Furthermore, the Hoover Police Department has not requested for any donor contributions to be released or refunded.”

Damn!

On Monday, though, a bombshell dropped when Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis read a statement on behalf of Carlee’s lawyer. The statement said that the 25-year-old had basically made the whole abduction up, and while the investigation is still ongoing, they have an official confession. So… does that mean these donors get their money back now?? This seems like it should be a pretty good “basis” to refund these contributions on!
