Among the newly publicized evidence surrounding Kurt Cobain‘s death, the reveal of a single note in the Nirvana frontman’s wallet seemed to cast his relationship with Courtney Love in a new light.
The note referred to Kurt’s wife as a “b*tch with zits” that used all his money for “doping and whoring.” It seemed to a lot of people, including Courtney’s own father, to be full of anger and hate.
But Courtney herself has finally responded to the note, contacting the Seattle Times by e-mail, and telling them that in fact SHE was the one who wrote the note!
Courtney explained that the note was actually from way back in New Years Eve 1991, when Nirvana was playing with Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers in San Francisco. In fact, the Phoenix on the note is from San Francisco’s Phoenix Hotel letterhead.
Two sources close to the couple have corroborated Courtney’s claim. Apparently Courtney and Kurt used to write each other dark, caustic love notes and this was one of those.
Could this “hate note” actually show the sweeter side of Courtney? The fact that Kurt saved it for over three years must mean it held significant sentimental value.
Knowing this twisted love note was on his person actually makes his tragic death even sadder somehow.
