After weeks of complicit silence, Ivanka Trump took a stand against her father’s family separation policy this week — only, it may have been by accident.
On Thursday, the First Daughter helped unveil a new report on international human trafficking, a document that included a two-page denouncement of Donald Trump‘s controversial immigration policy.

According to the LA Times, the report stated:
“Removal of a child from the family should only be considered as a temporary, last resort.”
Uh… no shit? It’s alarming that statement needs to be put in writing.
The report was written before the administration’s policy went into effect in April, but with Ivanka’s backing it’s seen as a direct blow to her father’s position on “zero tolerance” persecution of illegal immigrants.

While many may think this happy accident was the product of Vank not reading the document, the White House wants us to think other wise — and has even been trying to paint the 36-year-old as the puppeteer behind Daddy’s policy shift.
Multiple lawmakers who attended White House meetings this week claimed that Trump told them how his daughter was the one who convinced him to end the damaging policy. GOP Rep. Carlos Curbelo of Florida told The Daily Beast on Tuesday:
“She has been apparently very affected by this and moved, and asked him to find a way to stop this practice.”
Ha! “Apparently.”
Others say it was the media coverage of the children in cages that persuaded Trump to sign the executive order. We’d have to agree.
