Jake Gyllenhaal Teaches Inner-City Kids To Garden

This is such an AMAZING program!

A NYC inner-city school located in a neighborhood whose closest source of food is Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King, and McDonald’s has started to teach children how to grow and cook their own food!

The kids are not only lucky enough to grow their own edible garden at school, but they even learned from a special celebrity guest! Jake Gyllenhaal has partnered with celebrity chef Alice Waters, the founder of the program, to share his passion for gardening with the kids!

While showing off his soft side as he interacted with the children, he told reporters:

“I grew up around gardens and growing my own food, my family did that alot and that was real source of community. Growing up, more than anything, I got to know my mother and father and my sister and they got to know me at the dinner table.”

Chef Waters believes that growing and cooking food should be part of EVERY school’s curriculum and we couldn’t agree more! Based on how much these kids are enjoying it, we hope the program catches on and more schools give it a shot!

Check out the video above for all the details and to watch Jake Gyllenhaal teach America’s youth how to grow healthy alternatives to fast food!
