James Corden Gets Choked Up Remembering George Michael & Explains Why The Late Late Show Owes 'Him So Much' -- Watch!

James Corden will be forever indebted to George Michael.
The British host got serious on The Late Late Show Tuesday night while reflecting on the music icon’s sudden passing, and he revealed just how much of an impact the former Wham! frontman’s music had on him.
He explained to the audience:

“I can remember so many specific times in my life where I might have felt on my own, and George’s music would feel like, you would listen to a song and he would reach his hand out and tell you that you weren’t on your own and that these feelings were not particular to you.”

But later on, Michael made even more of an impact on Corden’s life… and career.

In 2011, the singer agreed to appear in a charity sketch with the comedian that featured the two singing together in a car — you can watch the whole thing HERE — which inspired Corden’s mega-successful Carpool Karaoke segment!
When the 38-year-old signed on to host the CBS late night show, he was struggling to find artists to perform in the musical sketch — until he sent the clip of his skit with Michael to pop superstar Mariah Carey. He remembered:

“Her words were, ‘If it’s good enough for George, then it’s good enough for me. I’ll do it.’ So we all have so much to thank him for, for the music that he’s given that will last forever, but we personally, here at this show, we owe him so much.”

Though Michael is sadly gone, he has undoubtedly left a legacy of music — and countless Carpool Karaoke sketches — behind him!

The Late Late Show airs at 12:37 a.m. EST on CBS!
