Grey's Anatomy Fans Petition For Jesse Williams To Get Fired Over His 'Racist' BET Awards Speech!

Not everyone is loving Jesse Williams‘ passionate speech about human rights… and we’re not just talking about professional troll Stacey Dash.
Last month, the Grey’s Anatomy star received a standing ovation for his empowering speech about the Black Lives Matter movement while accepting the Humanitarian Award at this year’s BET Awards.
But the 34-year-old’s strong words rubbed some fans the wrong way, and these fans are apparently so offended by the “racist” speech, they want the human rights activist to be fired from the ABC medical drama!

That’s right! Critics created a petition on change.org that demands Williams be fired from Grey’s to be punished for his “hate speech.” Wow.
The petition, which has 5,908 signatures as of this writing, reads:

“Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions. There’s been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude. Why was Burke’s character fired from Grey’s Anatomy after his inappropriate homophobic slur, but nothing for Jesse Williams? Why the one-way street? Why the support for a hater? Why the hypocrisy? #AllLivesMatter All humans bleed the same color. #EqualConsequences4RacistBehavior”

True, Isaiah Washington did ultimately get fired for saying hateful homophobic slurs — but comparing that to Williams’ uplifting speech about equality (that had everything to do with why he was on stage accepting his humanitarian award in the first place) doesn’t make much sense at all.
But then again, neither does the logic that series creator — and vocal Black Lives Matter supporter — Shonda Rhimes will fire Williams because a handful of fans were too busy seething at his “racist” speech to actually listen to the words coming of his mouth.
