Kate Spade‘s suicide note contained a message for her 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix, according to law enforcement officials via The Associated Press on Tuesday.
As we reported, the famous handbag designer was found in her New York apartment by a housekeeper at 10:30 a.m. EST, having reportedly hanged herself. The 55-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police sources say, among other things, the fashion legend’s note told her teenage daughter that the suicide was not her fault.
According to TMZ, the note was found on a bed near her body, and it read:

“Bea – I have always loved you. This is not your fault. Ask Daddy!”

The AP report also says husband Andy Spade was home when the suicide was discovered, and that their daughter was at school.
TMZ says the housekeeper found Kate with a red scarf attached to a closet door knob in the bedroom. After finding her unresponsive and cold body, the housekeeper contacted the building’s superintendent who reportedly rushed upstairs, cut the scarf, and attempted CPR.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said at an unrelated press conference that no criminality is suspected:

“At this point, there was a note left. The contents of that note, as well as the physical state of the apartment and the comments of the witness, lend to the credibility that it is an apparent suicide.”

Spade’s family released the following statement through a spokesman:

“We are all devastated by today’s tragedy… We loved Kate dearly and will miss her terribly. We would ask that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this very difficult time.”
