Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are known for being allll over each other these days, but it turns out the Riverdale star almost blew his shot with his wifey by being extremely jealous!
In the preview of the daytime TV maven’s new SiriusXM podcast, Let’s Talk Off Camera, which was shared with ET on Tuesday and will premiere on Wednesday, the couple revealed the actor had a major problem with being overly protective of his partner. Opening up about her “biggest complaint” during their relationship, Kelly dished:
“My biggest complaint about you over the course of our marriage, and this is not recent because it definitely changed … but you used to be insanely jealous and that was a hard pill to swallow … It’s very hard being married to somebody who is jealous.”
After learning how severe Mark’s jealousy really was, we can only imagine how complicated things must have been!!
The talk show host went on to explain that her husband, whom she married in 1996, used to create “a perception of a scenario” that wasn’t always true, leading to issues. In fact, this happened the very first week they got married. She spilled the tea, saying:
“It was our first week of marriage because we didn’t take our honeymoon until later. You were working and I went to visit you in Boston. We went to this Italian restaurant and the waiter was like a very cute old man, he’s definitely in his 70s, if not 80s. He leaned down and he said, ‘And for the principessa?'”
“I thought it was so cute that this little old man called me a princess, and I looked at him and I gave him my order in a very smiley way. And he walked away and you picked a horrible fight.”
LOLz! Mark got jealous of an 80-year-old?! That’s when you know he was being dramatic!
Mark owned up to his actions, recalling how he “got upset” in the moment, saying:
“I remember that. Look at age 25, I was pretty insane. But that jealousy thing definitely followed me for a while. I’m not jealous anymore.”
It’s a good thing because the Live! with Kelly and Ryan star is “so grateful that [he’s] not.” Addressing his “character flaw” further, the All My Children alum expressed:
“It’s ugly. As ugly as it feels to the person who has to be on the receiving end of it, it’s such an ugly feeling inside. If this is any consolation, you know you’re being crazy. The jealous person knows that this is wrong and it’s ugly, but they can’t help it.”
While the 51-year-old doesn’t know for sure why his jealousy faded, he credits the change to all the work he did on himself, noting:
“I wanted to do some work on myself and that was one of the major things that I needed to work on because it was getting in the way.”
Sounds like it’s a good thing he did some soul searching and changed his ways! Hear the pair discuss this marriage hiccup (below)!
We bet a lot more of these candid conversations will be headed our way now that Mark is slated to replace Ryan Seacrest on the popular ABC morning show beginning on April 17. Are you excited to see lots more of the lovebirds on screen!? Let us know (below)!
