Luke Cage Star Mike Colter Tells Chelsea How Trayvon Martin's Murder Helped Shape His Superhero

Not all superheroes wear capes!
In fact, when Mike Colter suits up as Marvel‘s newest vigilante Luke Cage next month, he’ll proudly be rocking a hoodie!
The 40-year-old actor stopped by fellow Netflix series Chelsea on Friday where he explained just how the murder of Trayvon Martin — who was killed in his own neighborhood in 2012 because wearing a hoodie made him seem like a “threat” — helped shape his character.

Apparently, when Colter and series developer Cheo Hodari Coker first met to talk about Luke, the duo wanted to make a statement by featuring a black superhero wearing a hoodie — knowing such a character would have great importance in the world we live in today!
