A Minnesota man is accused of murdering and dismembering his pregnant sister — and cops say he did it because he was angry that she was “no longer innocent.”
According to a press release sent out on Tuesday by the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, Jack Joseph Ball has been arrested and charged with murdering his sister, Bethany Israel, as well as her unborn child. Officials in the county, which is a semi-rural area southeast of Minneapolis, say the murder occurred on the night of May 23.

According to the attorney’s office, Bethany had gone to Jack’s home to have dinner. But family members became concerned later that evening when she failed to return home afterwards. One unnamed family member went to Ball’s house to see if he could re-trace Bethany’s steps. When the family member got there, they saw Jack leaving the scene. Then, per the prosecutors’ release, when the concerned relative went inside the home, they found “a significant amount of blood.”
OMG…
They immediately called the police. When cops showed up, prosecutors say the officers found bloody knives and dismembered body parts believed to belong to Israel. Holy s**t!! But somehow, it gets worse. Ball was quickly tracked down in the nearby town of Rosemount. There, a homeowner called in to report that a man had placed a body part on the front steps of his house. WTF?! Officers in Rosemount responded quickly and detained Ball. By the time they caught up with him, he had a wound on his neck that authorities believe to have been self-inflicted.
Ball was booked into jail and officially charged with two counts of second-degree murder — one for his sister, and one for the death of her unborn child. Per a medical examiner’s report released with the prosecutor’s arrest announcement, Israel was between 17 and 18 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. Such a sickening and unnecessary loss…
As for the motive behind the killings? According to Dakota County Lead Attorney Kathy Keena, cops found journals belonging to Ball in which he wrote that he was upset his sister had become pregnant because that meant she was “no longer innocent.” WTF?! Keena said more in a statement on Ball’s arrest:
“The allegations in this case are deeply disturbing and horrific — words can’t describe what our law enforcement partners encountered during the investigation. My office will work hard to ensure the victims receive justice and will provide the necessary support for the victims’ family.”
As for Israel, her family has started a GoFundMe to help defray funeral and memorial expenses. Mourning loved ones wrote:
“Bethany was not only a cherished wife, daughter, sister, and an expectant mother but also a beloved figure in the volleyball community. Bethany’s radiant spirit and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love for life, her family, and the friendships she nurtured are the legacies she leaves behind. As a beacon of warmth and generosity, Bethany’s absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, that fundraiser has accumulated nearly $29,000 in donations. You can visit it and donate for yourself HERE. Our hearts go out to Bethany, her unborn child, and their loved ones after such a terrible and senseless tragedy.
