VOTE: Do You Support Megxit??

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle deciding to walk away from their official positions as senior members of the Royal family is the biggest news story of the new decade.

Not only is the move surprising and nearly unprecedented, it’s also controversial af!

FOR

Many are cheering the Duke and Duchess for taking the initiative in forging their own path, carving out the life they want for themselves and their son Archie Harrison.

Let’s face it, Meghan has been put through the ringer by certain relentlessly vocal members of the press and the public who want her to fail as an outsider and as an American. And — let’s be frank — some just hate the idea of a woman of color with this kind of privileged position.

So if she’s going to be treated differently than the rest of the Royal family, why not act differently? It makes sense to find a niche as a public figure outside the traditional structure, where she won’t be a square peg in a round hole — and constantly criticized for not being a perfect fit.

And we know Harry has been thinking about a move like this for some time. After all, he’s known as “The Spare” — he isn’t exactly likely to ever ascend to the throne, so why not do something unique? Not to mention, he probably doesn’t want to see what happened to his mom happen to his wife. It’s a valid concern.

On the other hand…

AGAINST

Many critics have taken a harsher stance against this move.

Meghan has been a Royal for all of what, ten minutes? And she’s decided this centuries-long structure is what? Not good enough for her or her kids? If so, why didn’t she take that into account before marrying, right?

OK, but if they did decide they didn’t want to be rich and famous anymore, that would be fair, right? But they’re not even doing that!

They’re basically saying they want to do exactly what they’re doing now — flying all over the world raising money and inspiring youth and being generally groovy, just without having to answer to the Queen. And the thing is, that isn’t really a job that exists outside the monarchy. They’re trying to have their cake and eat it, too. Rich but without making fortunes, all the benefits of being world famous with as much privacy as your average Joe.

Some would call the whole thing selfish and more than a little bit narcissistic.
