Just as the ripples of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s decision to step down from their place as senior members of the Royal family was making waves, she was already waving goodbye.
According to a new report from DailyMail.com, the Duchess of Sussex — shoot, should we even still call her that? — was in the UK just three days after spending the holidays in North America. Then on Wednesday, she flew right back to Canada, leaving hubby to deal with the fallout.
One would be forgiven for viewing this as a response to the reported backlash from the Royal family, but apparently it was all premeditated.

Per the outlet’s sources, her swift return to the Great White North was always the plan; in fact, the couple didn’t even bring baby Archie Harrison back to England, instead leaving him with their nanny.
Maybe she knew how badly the Royal fam would take the news? After all, she’s not exactly a stranger to dysfunctional family…
Just how bad is it?
Well, first off according to DM, the announcement itself was in direct disobedience to Queen Elizabeth‘s specific direction not to go public.
Even the brief official statement from the palace hinted the Sussexes had jumped the gun:
“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
Indeed. We’ve heard that work has thus far included an emergency Royal family meeting.
Apparently that meeting is actually a conference call between the Queen in Sandringham, Prince Charles in Scotland, and Prince William at Kensington, and Harry at Windsor. Per their sources, while Her Majesty is disappointed, both heirs to the throne are downright LIVID. A source told The Sun:
“Their statement was not cleared with anyone. It breaks all protocol. This is a declaration of war on the family. There is fury over how they’ve done this without any thought for the implications for the institution. The Queen is deeply upset. The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are incandescent with rage.”
We’re now hearing they were only given a 10-minute heads up before the announcement went public. It seems Harry and Meghan rather painted them into a corner by telling the world, forcing everyone else to back their play or risk looking like they’re having a civil war behind the palace walls.
Not only that, for Will this is even more infuriating — he’s having to deal with this while he’s meant to be celebrating his wife’s birthday!
Apparently several members of the family are gathered at Kensington for Kate Middleton‘s 38th anyway — but now this is obviously the talk of the day, with everyone feeling “stabbed in the back” per a source speaking to the Mail.
No wonder Meghan didn’t plan on attending that particular party… and instead is staying nearly 5,000 miles away!
