Michael J. Fox Is NOT Afraid Of Parkinsons, Uses His Show To Prove It To The World!

Michael J. Fox doesn’t really need to prove anything to anyone, but what better way than a new TV series to show the world what Parkinsons is about, and that it isn’t something that can keep you down!

MJF’s last TV show was more than a decade ago, and his new show, The Michael J. Fox Show, has him happier than ever to be working again — especially because it hits so close to home. The premise is that a local Manhattan television anchor returns to work after five years at home with his family because he’s diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s isn’t just a small portion of the show, it’s baked right into the core of it!

Apparently it DOES NOT tiptoe when it comes to dealing with the disease and its symptoms, even though the focus is often on things other than the disease.

Here’s what MJF said:

“This is a reflection of my experience. The way I look at life, the way I look at the reality of Parkinson├óΓé¼Γäós, is that sometimes it├óΓé¼Γäós frustrating and sometimes it├óΓé¼Γäós funny. I need to look at it that way and I think other people need to look at it that way. But beyond that, I think we all get our own Parkinson’s, we all get our own thing. And I think that we├óΓé¼Γäóll look at it from the filter of that experience: I need to laugh at my stuff too.”

The world would have a hard time finding someone more humble and inspiring than Michael J. Fox!

He continued:

“A lot of times when you have a disability, one of the things you deal with is other people’s projections of what your experience is and people projecting what they think it is, and their fear about it, and not seeing the experience you├óΓé¼Γäóre having. Parkinson├óΓé¼Γäós itself, there├óΓé¼Γäós nothing horrifying about it to me. It is what I deal with. It is my reality and it is my life. But it├óΓé¼Γäós not horrifying. It├óΓé¼Γäós not gothic nastiness.”

This is the PERFECT place for those out there with the wrong idea about the disease can learn a little bit about it, and that there’s nothing to fear. Misinformation is a disease’s best ally, and we’re glad MJF is taking it upon himself to change that!

Not only that, but he’s just extremely happy to be back in the swing of work, even with the long hours — but he probably won’t follow it up with a movie:

“I├óΓé¼Γäóm really happy with how it feels to be back at work! I can├óΓé¼Γäót imagine doing 22 episodes of this thing and then spend my summer doing a movie…That’s crazy, that├óΓé¼Γäós how I got in this mess! This is what I do. This is what I was built and programmed to do. This is what I enjoy├óΓé¼┬ªwhy can├óΓé¼Γäót I? There’s no reason not to do it.”

Sept. 26 can’t come soon enough!

We hope people will show up for how they remember what Michael J. Fox was when he was working a decade ago — and we hope they end up staying with the show after finding out that he’s still the same guy!

We’re SO happy he’s back!
