Modern Family Honored For Its Diversity

Yet another award for the ABC hit show Modern Family!
The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network honored the show this weekend in Los Angeles for its portrayal of a diverse America, which includes gay couple Mitchell and Cameron, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet.
And with the recent string of gay-teen suicides, openly-gay Ferguson had something to say about his childhood experiences:

“I do have the same sort of mixed feeling, in the light of everything that’s happened. However, I think an event like this echoes the sentiment that we need to change. This cannot continue happening.
I actually had to leave eighth grade and go to another school because it got so bad, so I certainly sympathize with these kids. Honestly, back at my 10-year reunion, I didn’t even remember any of those bullies’ names. Frankly, they weren’t doing nearly as good as me. So, it was very vindicating.”

It DOES get better!!
And bravo to Modern Family for promoting diversity!
