Don’t bother trying to bust this myth, Perezcious readers, because unfortunately it’s true.
On Wednesday, news broke that Mythbusters is going to be canceled. The reality series will come to an end following its 14th season, set to air next year.
The popular program — famous for debunking high-profile myths or widespread urban legends — was one of cable television’s longest-running shows and will go out after 248 episodes and 2,950 experiments.

While this may come as a shock to viewers, the show’s stars Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman had actually known the news for a while now.
In fact, Adam admits he was nervous that the Discovery series would end without any actual warning, saying:
“The thing that really makes me happy is most cable shows like ours just end. They get past their freshness date, you finish a season and then you hear you’ll never see another one. I truly thought that’s the way Mythbusters would end.”
But, because they received plenty of notice, the 48-year-old explains they’ve been taking the time to conclude the program properly, and go out with a bang, adding:
“It was my greatest fear that Mythbusters would just stop and we wouldn’t be able to do proper final episodes. So whether it’s myths about human behavior or car stories or explosion stories, we tried to find the most awesome example of each category and build on our past history.”
Jamie revealed that, while he was sometimes frustrated with the minor manipulation that goes along with producing any reality show, he was grateful for the way in which the TV show inspired people to express an interest in science, saying:
“The kind of appreciation that’s been expressed by people all over the place for what we’ve done, for encouraging them or their family or kids to be interested in science, is absolutely wonderful. I can’t think of anything that would be more important than that.”
Although we’re sad to see Mythbusters go, we’re sure the final episodes will be epic!
