Oklahoma's Tornado Death Toll Rises, Estimated To Grow To A Fearsome Size

tornado oklahoma destruction aftermath
One thing is certain — the tornado carnage that Moore, Oklahoma witnessed Monday has resulted in a gruesome number of injuries and deaths, more than any town should ever see.
While there seemed to be some conflict in the official death toll Tuesday morning, New York Times reports that Oklahoma City medical examiner spokeswoman Amy Elliot said at least 91 had died already.
Meanwhile, CNN reports that while the official death toll stands at 51, they have confirmed that 91 is the estimated number with a coroner’s office official stating that some 40 bodies ‘have yet to be processed by medical examiners – roughly half of them children.’
Hospitals report at least 145 injured from the grips of mother nature, 70 of them children.
Unfortunately, this number is feared to grow as it’s believed that more bodies still remain undiscovered in the debris.
We’ll keep you updated on this harrowing news, but we sincerely hope we don’t have to report a higher number. Our thoughts are truly with everyone affected by this utterly devastating tragedy.
UPDATE: The official death toll has thankfully lowered to 24, with officials citing double-reported deaths as the inaccuracy in the previous death toll number of 51. Though we’re unsure if this number will rise again, as there were still more feared dead, we’ll continue to keep you updated on this tragedy.
