Philip Seymour Hoffman's New Showtime Series Happyish Is "Unlikely" To Continue Production Following Actor's Passing

We’re still unbelievably saddened over the sudden passing of this great actor!
Since news of Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s death broke yesterday, many have been wondering the fate of his multiple pending acting projects – specifically a new Showtime series called Happyish.
Will they replace him? Can the entire series? Finish shooting?
While we have no official word from the network on the newborn series, a source close to the situation is revealing the show is “unlikely” to move forward:

“It is hard to imagine a way in which it could go on. His role would have to be recast and there weren’t any other actors in serious consideration aside from Philip. If the show does move forward, the premiere would be delayed as pilot would need to be reshot.”

The comedy-drama centers around an advertising executive in utter dismay over the changing scene of his work world as the result of social media’s influence on the current times.
The series was built in bulk around the actor, and the pilot was shot already – so now, Showtime will have to choose between recasting the role or leaving the project forever.
Upon hearing about the actor’s death, the network released the following heartfelt statement:

“Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of our generation’s finest and most brilliant actors. He was also a gifted comedic talent. It was a great privilege and pleasure to work with him and we are all absolutely devastated by this sudden loss. Our thoughts go out to his family at this very difficult time.”

We continue to keep anyone close to Philip in our thoughts.
