We hope this doesn’t spoil a very special OTP for all you Harry Potter heads out there!!
Despite the fact Emma Watson and Rupert Grint‘s fictional characters were pushed as an “end game” couple in the franchise’s books and movies over the years, that idea continues to be challenged by reports the real romance was between Ron Weasley’s on-screen love interest and a different actor IRL the entire time.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor revealed he always saw “sparks” between Watson and Tom Felton (yep, the infamous Draco Malfoy) when they were all on set together back in the day — adding fuel to the fire of those dating rumors circulating about the two!

Grint was promoting his latest gig on the new Apple TV+ series, The Servant, when the topic of his buddies eventually came up.
For our readers who might’ve missed it, Felton and Watson are extremely close and their flirty Instagram pics seem to hint something more magical than friendship is going on between them.
However, back in August, ET reportedly got confirmation from the pair directly that they are just good friends.
Yet, these shots really seem to tell a different story, no? Take another look (below):
Well, in response to the gossip, the 31-year-old said:
“There was always something. There was a little bit of a spark.”
Ahh, there it is!!
Before we get ahead of ourselves, though, the English actor admitted any early chemistry between ’em was most likely at a very basic level for their age. He explained:
“But we were kids. It was like any kind of playground romance.”
Okay, that’s fair. But, it sounds like Emma had a hard time letting go of those feelings as she got older!
Back in 2012, the starlet previously admitted she developed a “terrible crush” on Felton, who seemingly had no idea about how she felt at the time. Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, she said:
“We love a bad guy, and he was a few years older and he had a skateboard and that just did it, really. He used to do tricks on it. He was so cool. He totally knew [I had a crush]. And the thing is, he’d turn and go, ‘Oh, I see her in a younger sisterly way.’ And it just broke my heart, still does.”
Fast-forward to this past October when Emma opened up to British Vogue about shifting her perspective away from being out of a relationship, and more toward being “self-partnered,” among other topics for the December issue.
Shortly after her comments got picked up by the media, Felton told The Daily Mail he considers himself to be in the same category while adding he thinks Watson is an “incredibly smart and lovely young lady.”
“I think in this day and age it’s not a necessity to be with someone just for the sake of being with someone, so I like the idea of self-partnering.”
In regards to those frequent hangouts with the 29-year-old Beauty and the Beast star, he added:
“It’s always nice to bump into each other and slightly reminisce about old times but also about looking forward to the future.”
Hmm. It sounds like both individuals are enjoying the single life right now, regardless of what anyone has to say about it. However, it doesn’t completely rule out the idea they could couple up in the future Tom is eagerly looking forward to. You never know!
