Simon Cowell Suffers Broken Back After Falling Off Electric Bike At His Los Angeles Home

Simon Cowell broke his back after falling off an electric bike! Ouch!

UPDATE 12:44 P.M. PT: We’re learning more about the surgery Cowell went through after injuring his back, and it sounds like quite the ordeal.

According to a source who spoke to People about the situation, the reality TV show judge and talent evaluator had a five-hour surgery overnight in which a metal rod was put into his back. The insider shared more, saying (below):

“Simon had surgery overnight and is doing okay this morning. It was a five-hour surgery and he has had to have a number of fusions and metal rod put into his back. He landed on his back when he fell from the bike. The injuries are bad but he’s also been told he was lucky.”

Wow. A five-hour emergency surgery is no joke, talk about scary!

We’re just glad it continues to sound like recovery is coming along better than what could’ve been in a potential worst-case scenario.

Get well soon, Simon!

Here’s hoping Simon Cowell is OK after he recovers from an unfortunate injury while riding an electric bike!

The 60-year-old music mogul and longtime reality TV competition show judge broke his back over the weekend when he fell off the new electric bike he’d been riding around the courtyard of his Los Angeles home, according to media reports. Oh, no!

The British-born TV exec and on-air personality was taking to the hospital for the injury and even underwent surgery, as doctors deemed it was serious enough to operate on. Apparently, he had received a new e-bike and had been trying it out when he fell off, or there was some kind of other accident that caused his fall.

His spokeswoman spoke to the media about the incident, thankfully relaying that despite the injury and surgery, the longtime TV judge was recovering well. According to BBC News and other outlets, she said (below):

“Simon has broken his back and is having surgery this evening [Saturday]. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.”

Still… so scary!

Other celebs came forward upon hearing the news trend overnight on Saturday. Fellow on-air TV personality Piers Morgan wished Simon “a full and speedy recovery,” for one, as others came forward with reactions to the scary news.  The surgery began sometime on Saturday evening (local time) in El Lay, so presumably he is resting and recovering now by Sunday morning, though we have not yet seen a recent update.

Of course, Cowell has long been a star in the US, first thanks to his time on American Idol and more recently due to his work for hit shows like The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. Those franchises have since blown up worldwide with affiliates in dozens of countries and media markets, making Cowell a reality TV competition show power broker and kingmaker. Of course, that hasn’t come without its own set of controversies about his alleged behavior on set, and behind the scenes…

He shares a six-year-old son, Eric, with his partner Lauren Silverman, as well. It’s unclear whether they were home with Simon at the time of his unfortunate accident, or what, but he spends much of his time in the LA area now and had been spending the coronavirus pandemic quarantine period there, as well.

It’ll be interesting to follow the recovery timetable for the star judge and talent evaluator, as he had been expected to appear as a judge for the upcoming live shows on this year’s America’s Got Talent, which had been scheduled to start filming in the United States next week. We’d assume he’ll need a bit more recovery time than that, but who knows… guess we’ll see what ends up happening with that soon enough.

In the meantime, here’s hoping Simon recovers well and can get back on his feet soon enough! Such a scary thing… so happy it wasn’t even worst than it was, though. Onward and upward!
