Who needs the Oscars when you can go to a Knicks game?!
On Monday, Spike Lee shared a passionate Instagram post in response to the all-white acting nominees for this year’s Academy Awards, in which he explained that he wouldn’t be attending the ceremony due to its lack of diversity.
After other high profile celebrities like Jada Pinkett Smith echoed Lee’s stance and called for a boycott, the filmmaker made it clear that he’s not telling anyone else what to do!

Speaking on Good Morning America on Wednesday, the Do The Right Thing director said he planned on attending the New York Knicks game in instead of the Oscars on February 28, saying:
“I have never used the word boycott. I’m not going, my wife’s not going. Everyone else can do what they want to do.”
As for his thoughts on if award show host Chris Rock should quit the show, as other stars have suggested he do, the 58-year-old said:
“He’s going to do what he wants to do, and I support either way.”
Lee explained that the lack of diversity at the Oscars isn’t exactly the fault of the Academy, but the studios who are responsible for producing films! He added:
“This whole Academy thing is a misdirection play. This goes further than the Academy Awards. This has to go back to the [studios].”
Hopefully now that the conversation is being had, the powers that be will finally make these long overdue changes!
