Husband Called TV Stations To Help Find 'Missing' Wife -- Then Was Charged With Her Murder

Stephen Miller Alabama Husband Called TV Stations Missing Wife Charged Murder

A desperate husband who pleaded with local TV stations to help find his missing wife… has now been charged with her murder.

Per reports from the Dothan Police Department in Alabama, Stephen Miller Sr. (no relation to Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff) set off alarm bells with television outlets when he called them asking for help locating his missing wife, Gloria. WDHN in particular reported he’d told police his wife was missing on Monday, February 24… and sat down with the outlet on Tuesday for an interview. He told them it was very unusual for his wife to just vanish and he wanted help from the public to find her.

What he didn’t know at this time, though, was cops were already suspicious of him. Officers with the DPD had found some of the 57-year-old woman’s property abandoned at a local shopping center, including her phone and purse, long before her husband had reported her missing. Investigators easily found out Miller was the one who dropped the stuff off. At this point, police had also found evidence of foul play.

With all of this evidence stacked against him, law enforcement stated Miller, 64, confessed to getting in a “physical altercation” with his spouse, which led to him “manually strangling her until she was lifeless”. Her body was then discovered in a dry creek bed beneath a bridge and promptly sent to Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

Lieutenant Ronald Hall said in a press conference, per WTVY, police believe his story wasn’t “adding up” so he confessed:

“He basically knew his (claims) were not adding up and he basically knew that he had no choice [but to confess].”

The victim’s brother, Sidney Whitaker, told WDHN he thinks “a monster” is living inside his brother-in-law because he visited after the alleged murder took place:

“For him to come over to my place, after he had already committed this crime and me having no knowledge of it, he was very deceptive … There was no other reason he would have took her personal items up to porter square mall and dropped them off to make it appear that she lost them there or had been abducted from there.”

Scary… but this case goes far deeper than just a murder.

AL.com obtained legal docs from last month in which Miller was requesting Protection from Abuse due to his wife allegedly being abusive and threatening his life on multiple occasions. He wrote in the request:

“She will hurt me, or my son given the chance.”

He also claimed to suffer at the hands of her “mental abuse” and she’d been placed under psychiatric care before. He did end up dismissing both of these cases himself, however. The couple’s daughter filed her own protective order against her mother back in January 2024, claiming she was “harassing” her and even threatened her with a knife years ago.

Miller is currently being held in Houston County Jail on a $1.5 million bond after being charged with one count of murder. A date for his arraignment has not been released.

Such an awful situation… We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
