This is heartbreaking.
ESPN anchor Stuart Scott inspired millions of people over his two-decade long battle with cancer. Sadly, he died on Sunday morning at the age of 49.
Scott, who was one of the network’s most loved anchors, received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance in July at the 2014 ESPY Awards, and he made it clear that he will not lose to cancer. He explained:
“When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.”
With those words in mind, Scott absolutely beat cancer by living a very full life!
ESPN’s president John Skipper released a statement, saying:
“ESPN and everyone in the sports world have lost a true friend and a uniquely inspirational figure in Stuart Scott. Who engages in mixed martial arts training in the midst of chemotherapy treatments? Who leaves a hospital procedure to return to the set? His energetic and unwavering devotion to his family and to his work while fighting the battle of his life left us in awe, and he leaves a void that can never be replaced.”
Our thoughts are with his friends, family, and anyone else who loved Scott on this sad day.
