This is terrifying!
Over the past few years, Uber has become an extremely popular transportation company, so it’s no surprise there are some pretty CRAZY stories involving rides — but this is AWFUL!

A man from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Joseph Fusco, filed a lawsuit against Uber on Thursday claiming one of their drivers beat him up and left him unconscious after they had a disagreement over a ride! Mr. Fusco was seeking a ride from Philadelphia to South Jersey, and next thing he knew, he was in the hospital!
Joseph claims he called for the car after leaving a restaurant on December 22, and once he got into the car with the accused driver, he was refused service and asked to leave. As things escalated, the driver walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and as the lawsuit claims:

“The Uber driver then dragged (Fusco) out of the front seat by his coat collar and severely beat (him), breaking multiple bones in his face, knocking out teeth and leaving him in a pool of blood on the pavement.”

To add insult to injury, the suit states the driver charged Mr. Fusco for a 28 minute ride “across the city of Philadelphia.” Woof.
Joseph’s lawsuit also alleges a rep from the transportation network company offered to reimburse him for the charge after the incident was reported via email on December 23. However, the alleged victim claims he has not heard from the company since and believes Uber has NOT taken action against their driver. The accuser is also hoping there’s security footage somewhere showing enough of the incident to validate his story.

Uber on the other hand says otherwise as they’ve claimed the driver was removed from their service and they are “fully supporting” a police investigation into the matter.
Interestingly enough, the lawsuit doesn’t name the company’s driver, and Joe is only seeking unspecified damages from Uber!
One of Mr. Fusco’s attorney’s, Matthew Luber, said in a statement:

“We allege that, at its core, Uber is a transportation company that must ensure passengers are transported safely.”

The alleged beaten man also states that he is “Uber’s archtypal customer an individual looking for a safe ride home after consuming alcohol”. The plaintiff continued saying the the company should start recognizing its drivers as employees and be held to the legal standards for public carriers.
We’re definitely interested to see how this whole case shakes out and will keep you posted as we hear more!
Do you think Joseph has a case against the driving company?
