Washington Landslide Death Count Reaches 24 While Many Remain Missing

washington landslide leaves 24 dead
Such tragedy in Washington this weekend.
After a disastrous landslide hit rural Washington, it is now being reported that the death count has reached 24 people.
Rescuers spent the weekend trying to save trapped survivors, but unfortunately, many bodies were also found during the recovery process.
But that’s not even the beginning of it all because 176 people are still missing. It is reported that those unaccounted for might just be duplicate names on the official list and not necessarily victims of the landslide.
Sheriff’s deputies are currently reviewing that list in order to get an accurate count of who they are looking for right now. And while some might be worried about people still missing, officials are still hoping to make rescues for anyone who might be trapped.
The landslide occurred due to groundwater saturation tied to heavy rain in the area and ended up covering about a square mile. Both cities of Oso and Darrington were drastically affected by the landslide. The landslide was reportedly 4,400 feet wide and had debris 30- to 40-feet thick in some areas.
We hope there are no more lives lost in this tragedy.
