This is just so sad.
Wes Craven — the writer/director who created the Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream horror film franchises — has died at the age of 76.
His family released a statement Sunday evening announcing the news:

“It is with deep sadness we inform you that Wes Craven passed away at 1PM on Sunday, August 30 after battling brain cancer. He was 76 years old. Craven was surrounded by love, in the presence of his family at his Los Angeles home.”

Wes’ films didn’t only deliver some of the greatest on-screen scares, they helped propel the careers of stars like Johnny Depp, Drew Barrymore and Courteney Cox.
A Nightmare On Elm Street reboot was in the works, and Scream was made into a TV series on MTV this summer.
Our thoughts go out to Wes’ family during this difficult time.
