Will Starvation Make You Live Longer?

There has been a lot of recent research around caloric restriction and longevity.
Basically the idea is the less you eat, the longer you live.
Sounds simple!
The thing is, it’s not just that not overeating keeps away things that will shorten your life, like diabetes, or obesity and the problems associated with those things.
Simply eating less causes the body to go into survival mode, which can actually allow you to live longer. At least according to some studies.
Sometimes, like in a study with monkeys, they found that a calorie restricted diet did in fact help the monkeys stay healthier, like less rates of cancer and diabetes, but they didn’t live longer.
So health and longevity don’t necessarily go hand in hand.
Many centenarians actually smoked for much of their lives which is confusing at best.
There are some companies that are actually trying to make products that can make the body mimic what calorie restriction looks like.
So you could eat normally but still receive life prolonging benefits.
Hopefully in the near future we can just take a pill to add years to our lives.
