Come on guys, don't you know anything about HSV-1 (assuming that's what she has)? If not, you should! Most people acquire it in childhood and 80% of the adult population in the US has it. However, only about 30% of infected individuals exhibit clinically apparent outbreaks (with even fewer having recurrent outbreaks). So eww all you want but get a blood tesy for HSV-1 and statistics say 8 out of 10 of you will test positive. And even without having an outbreak you can still transmit HSV-1.
BTW, HSV-2 can cause oral herpes too (but this is rarely the case) so get tested for both!

Thank you to you & anyone else who has posted the facts. HSV 1 & 2 is so common. I hate to even think about how many people are walking around with gential herpes & dont even know it- (Viral shedding w/out visable-sores) Make sure you when you get tested for STD"s that you ask if HSV (Blood test) is included! Not all Dr.'s test for it routinely.
if anyone out there gets them, dab nail polish remover on them with a q tip.. it's the best best best way to cure them.. gone in 3 days!!!

You CAN catch herpes type I (the one that generally causes cold sores) on your genitals if you receive oral sex from someone who has the oral HSV type 1 virus. They do NOT have to have a visible sore to transmit this to you. It is NOT always strictly type I on the lips and type II on the genitals. Many people have type I genitally. Type II on the lips is rare, however. To the person who said cold sores are hereditay you are sadly mistaken. It is a virus. I can see why this stuff spreads like wildfire with all the misinformation out there.

stupid idiot perez…..why would a hsv1 (herpes simplex 1 mostly located on mouth nerves ) be embarrassing……huge amount of people get it when they were babies or toddlers … You dont have to sleep with everyone to get it or it doesnt indicate that you have herpes on your genital( HSV2 mostly located on genital nerves)..and a last word having herpes on your genitals is not embarrassing either… it is a disease like flu or sore throat….or like pneumonia….You know pneumonia don't you…. And you might also know that it is a common AIDS related disease….. what would you feel if people related things to you when you were ill… Or call that embarrassing… so uneducated you can be sometimes…

Maybe I'm uneducated on the matter…I've never had a "cold sore" but I don't think a cold sore always equals herpes. I'm pretty sure that is the case; they are caused by different things…yes, sometimes herpes, but not always.
