Al Gore Responds

Filed under: Politik > Al Gore

algore2.jpg

We told y'all earlier that former vice president Al Gore seemed a little two faced when it was revealed by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research that the former Vice President's home energy use has risen by more than 10% over the past year.

Mr. Gore's spokesperson reached out to us to set the record straight.

Here's what she said:

I had the chance to read your blog today and wanted to take a chance to
clear the record:

1. The Gores undertook a three plus year renovation that concluded in
November 2007 with the issuance, in November 2007 of Gold LEED (Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design) from the US Green Building Council.

2. As part of this renovation, the Gores have:
-Installed a geothermal system for heating, cooling and hot water
-Installed 33 solar panels
-Completely retrofitted their appliances, windows, ductwork, insulation, and
lighting.

3. Since the renovations were complete, the Gores have saved 40 percent on
their site energy use (which is a combination of electricity and natural gas
bills–the two major sources of global warming gases).

4. The Gores also purchase their electricity, through their utility, from
the Green PowerSwitch program–which means that their electricity come from
solar, wind and methane gas.

So, in summary, the Gores have: made their home more energy efficient, the
produce electricity from renewable power (solar, geothermal) and they
purchase renewable power. No one is perfect, but they are doing their part.

Finally, the Gores are also donating a substantial amount of their personal
time to educate the public about the climate crisis as well as donating the
proceeds of their work to charity. They have donated the proceeds of the
Nobel Peace Prize, "An Inconvenient Truth" (the book and film), and Mrs.
Gore's photography to the Alliance for Climate Protection and The Climate
Project.

And there you have it.

Thoughts?

She didn't address the fact that his house still consumes more energy in a month than the average American home does in a year, even with the ambitious green renovations. And I'm sure people have already commented on his gas-guzzling private jet.

    102

big whoop. The Gores still leave a bigger stinkin', dyin' decaying footprint on this planet than 50 families combined.

And how pathetic is he…reaching out to freakin' Perez Hilton?

That one will make me chuckle for days.

Does it really matter if Al Gore's house uses more energy than others? No one has done more than Al to bring the problems in our environment to light and has made millions of people more aware of their own responsibility to the earth and others living in it.

He could dump sewage from his home septic tank on baby seals and he'd still have done MUCH more for the world than any of the people who are trying to make him seem like he's a hypocrite.

Hey Tubby….er, Al, don't bother educating me. I'm going to continue driving my Hummer 90 miles an hour down the freeway while I'm chowing on a Big Mac. I'm going to go home and turn on my AC full tilt, get the house nice and cold so I can cozy up under the blankies at night. I'm going to make seven trips to the store each day and take everything home in plastic bags. The only green thing I'm going to do is throw my rolling rock bottles out the window at Prius drivers. I can't wait to get on a 747 and fly up to Northern Canada for the annual Polar Bear hunt!! Fun times. I'll piss in the Arctic Ocean and chow down on a Seal burger while I wait for my shot. Then I'll hop on my ATV and do donuts in the Caribou grazing lands. Ah, to be rich and American!!!!!

HE JUST SAYS WE NEED CHANGE, BUT HE DOESN'T SAY WHAT, BECAUSE IT WILL BE HORRIBLE! MORE TAXES AND LESS SECURITY! THAT'S JUST WHAT WE NEED! GO MCCAIN!

    Re: Tamar

And of course he did all of it out of the goodness of his own heart. Had nothing to do with climbing up the political ladder to purchase his sprawling 'eco efficient' home.

Ahh jeeze your right. What a good guy.

You are forgetting the point. All this post I am sure was throwing out there was that no bodys perfect - and lets shed a little light on these media giants that make such heavy claims. No one is basterdizing him - fairly certain his peoples response would not have been up if it was.

Al Gore has done alot. I want to see corporations become truly green. But that won't happen because the core reason corporations exist is to make money or foster a society that makes them more money in the future.

Not just a loser, a fat loser who isn't even a good father, wasn't his son caught drinking and driving for the 4th time and after being pulled over the cops found drugs in his car, maybe Gore the fatso should stay home more often and be a father to his kids instead a flying around the world in private jets, staying at 5 star hotels and mingling with the rich and famous pretending he is saving the world and not lining his own pockets.

    115

Re: brian – You need to get your story straight before you accuse Gore of telling lies. I'm so heartily sick of people still spinning this shit. He NEVER said he 'invented' the internet. The quote came from an interview with Wolf Blitzer in March of 1999 (and I urge you to look it up and read the transcript). In it, he said, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the internet. took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system"

    This is, in fact, true.

If you know anything about the origins of the internet, you will know that it began as an inter-governmental and military communication network. Al Gore took interest in this concept and passed the first bill designed to enhance the capabilities of this communication network by opening it up to private companies. Educate yourself. It's the High Performance Computing and Communications Act of 1991. Its nickname is the GORE BILL. Isn't that something? That was only the beginning of numerous grants, acts, and events that boosted the internet to what it is today.

So before you start spouting shit you know nothing about, take some time to do research and get the correct information. That's what Al Gore INVENTED the internet for, is it not?

  16. Meg says – reply to this

    116

WOW!!! The only things missing from that load of CRAP was the number of Carbon Credits Gore has bought over the past year. Really???? I guess people are starting to figure out the TRUTH of Gores Inconveneint truth

  17. Regan says – reply to this

    117

yeah whatever. First of all, Gore's people read YOUR blog??? tragic! Secondly…if it came from their spokesperson, then i find it suspect. Not that I think Repubs are all honestly either but I generally don't believe anything ANY politician or their spokeshole says.

  18. Marcu says – reply to this

    118

I live in the area of town where Al Gore lives…first off, his house is huge and I'm sure uses an incredible amount of energy. Furthermore, he had the city install huge planters in the middle of the roads near his home because he said too many people were speeding past his house. So, it wouldn't surprise me one bit that he has own concerns ahead of his public claims. And is it just me, or does he need to hire a new publicist? They don't even address the question at hand. Talk about sidestepping the issue.

  19. Chris says – reply to this

    119

Right sure- why did he wait until Nov. of 07??? Sounds iffy to me. Nobody talks about the fact that Bush did this years ago!!!! He home is so eco friendly it is ridiculous.

  20. Flo says – reply to this

    120

The FATASS liar only had his house done AFTER it was published that Bush's house was BUILT with these same green features. Fatass only converted his home once he was exposed.

  21. becca says – reply to this

    121

I am all in for the idea of energy awareness and conservation. Something that he is not mentioning is that in the process of renovation, all of the old appliances, windows, ductwork, insulation, and lighting that he replaced with energy efficient products had to go somewhere. That means that most likely a nearby landfill is filled with Al Gores insulation and old ductwork. Waste is just as much of a component of Global Warming as are non-energy efficient appliances, windows, ductwork, insulation, and lighting. Just a thought…

  22. Jeff says – reply to this

    122

Gore is a typical lear jet liberal. He begs everyone to cut back on their energy usage while he uses 10-20 times more than the average american. How can anyone take this idiot seriously when he doesn't practice what he preaches.

  23. Flo says – reply to this

  31. Laura says – reply to this

    131

It still doesn't explain the fact that his energy consumption went up 10%. He has been on his Global Warming kick & preaching about it ever since his days at Harvard so why is he using so much energy? His home uses enough energy to power like 250 homes or something. That is ridiculous. He is such a hypocrite. How much money did he spend to make his house green? What a waste. Just scale down & stop using so much energy. He is also another one that preaches about the poor & those that need help meanwhile he is making 100's of millions of dollars & spending every penny on himself because HE HAS SUCCEEDED AT FOOLINIG THE AMERICAN PUBLIC & MEDIA about global warming. He is also making money off the stupid people who are buying carbon credits. I hope you all who believe in global warming are enjoying Al Gore's success & spending habits.

He's so full of it. What a hypocrite! He would have not done anything if the press had never noticed how much his own house added to the global warming problem. I mean, you write a book on global warming and how we all should conserve energy, and yet your house uses more power than any other house in the WHOLE state of Tennessee?

  42. Laura says – reply to this

    142

I want to ad that maybe if Gore focused more on his son & less on feeding us bullshit maybe his son wouldn't be a drug addict loser. I think that most of the time you can tell a lot about someones parents by the way they conduct themselves. Al Gore is phony as shit.

  43. mish says – reply to this

    143

WINNER! he's definately doing his part, I have a lot of respect for the Gores.

    GO GREEN :)

  44. Dale says – reply to this

    144

It doesn't matter where Gore gets his power from, it's that he requires that much in the first place. Unless he lives a life that the rest of us could live without impacting the planet, he truly is a hypocrite.

Ed Begley Jr. is a big environmentalist as well, but he practices what he preaches by living in a 1500 sq foot house and riding a bike most places.

Either way, Global Warming is less an "inconvenient truth" and more of a "politically convenient exaggeration". The climate will change no matter what we do to it, and CO2 is nothing new to Earth - man-made CO2 accounts for only a fraction of what earth naturally generates. It's not a defense of "big oil", it's a defense of truth, even if it isn't emotionally satisfying.

I love how global warming deniers always rush to say something moronic like, some scientists say it isn't real.
But they never tell you which scientists said it wasn't real.

The IIPC report was exhaustive, but if you are too stupid or brainwashed to understand it, that's your fault.
How can anyone with a brain not think that spewing toxic waste into the land, sea, and air for almost 100 years won't have any adverse effects on the planet?

  50. MmHmm says – reply to this

    164

I wish there could be an actual discussion about the topic and not just a bunch of knee jerk responses. Kate was the only one who took the time to actually research her answer. You can't say there's no global warming because of the weather happening at your home alone. That's not a fair and scientific response. I also have to wonder about all the people posting about his airplane usage and the size of his house. My guess is that most of you don't really know how often he flies in an airplane or how large his house is. It's also ignorant to say that all politicians are untrustworthy. That's a really broad sweeping statement defining an entire group of people. I watched "An Inconvenient Truth", and I also recently got to see him share a similar presentation in person. It may not be something we want to hear, but I believe global warming is a reality we have to face.

  65. Marku says – reply to this

    165

It is clear that Perez had it right, Gore seeks to fill his pockets first and gain revenge against Bush second.

Reality is that Gore acts like he is Nature's Nobleman when what he is really doing is trying to make his name synonymous with a cause he feels he cannot take any heat on or go wrong with.

Remaining relevant i the public on a softball issue, what a risk taker!

WHAT AN IDIOT while he runs up the electric bill!!

  67. Frank says – reply to this

    167

People are RETARDED. Global Warming does not exist…only liberal fools "believe" in it. And Oh they're so much better than you and I because they care more about the environment.

For what Gore spent on his renovation, he could have heated his home with Jack Daniels for the rest of his life.

And Obama? LMAO! Here's a genius that thinks taxing oil companies' profits will lower the price of gas. The Democrats front man isn't even smart enough to know the fundamentals of business: BUSINESSES DON'T PAY TAXES! If the government raises taxes $1, then business raise they're prices $1.

Do the homework and you'll find out that the government makes 30-40 cents per gallon of gas while the big, evil oil companies make 6-8 cents per gallon.

It's not rocket science…but it's apparently too advanced for liberals to understand ;o)

  68. MaryJ says – reply to this

People just dont get the global warming issue. Its sad and bash him for taking private jets? How else is he suppose to get around efficiently. Instead of focusing on the ridiculous why not look at what he is saying, and all he is doing and done. So many igs (short for ignorant) lol now a days.
I LOVE AL and the Clintons. They are right on and ahead of thier time regarding what Americans and the world are ready to hear/ready for. Gore rules!

  70. Jamie says – reply to this

    170

Just another politician that talks one way and walks another. If global warming is such a hot issue, why did he just start his renovation in 2004? Was it not an issue before? Was it not an issue during his/Clinton’s time in power? No, it is a way for him to make millions and save a little face after the lost bid to the white house!!! American need to do their own research and think for themselves! Democrats and Republicans are laughing all the way to the bank at the expense of the American people!!!

  71. Chris says – reply to this

    171

    Perez,

Al Gore will be in history books forever for whatever reason. Nobody will remember you in 5. Stop throwing trash to people who actually tries to make this world better. You just made it a pittier and sadder place. Can't wait to see karma back to you.

Gore is the biggest skam artist in the World . In 70's the same group was claming global cooling. The cause for global warming is assoc. with SUN SPOTS. Their events or more accurate than CO2 levels. Gore establised the carbon crediit co. Now he is a millionair. BY THE WAY YOU GREEN WORSHIPERS I have a few questions. What do plants breath??. How does nature adjust for more food and oxygen on a fast increasing population???.

Extend the growing season is one way. The increase in vegitaion, adds food and oxygen. Do youl liberals really beleve these hypocrties when you see their deception every day.

    175

    Perez,

I've really enjoyed watching you repeatedly attack people, then get PWN'd by them or their publicists. They make you look like a complete jackass, and all you can do is sit there with you're tail between your chubby thighs and say "Thoughts?"

    well… Thoughts?

  76. Ratta says – reply to this

    176

I just wish some of that big money being generated from the 18 hour concert last summer and all the speeches, etc. would go towards helping those less fortunate to get the expensive electric cars, and fancy renovations we all "need". Instead we have this etilism from the haves to the have nots. Another reason for the rich who jet around the world to turn their noses up at the poor. Most people are having trouble putting food on the table and getting to work. I'm sure everyone would love these luxuries but who can afford them? Also, I have an open mind about all of this but to hear that the debate is over really bothers me in a free society. People are still debating evolution. When you have the facts on your side, it shouldn't be a problem. I will not be persuaded based on bully tactics. I watched an Inconvenient Truth and heard what could happen. That wasn't enough to convince me it definitely would happen. I also have not heard the other side at all. That is kind of scary. I also resent being told what we have to do to reduce our consumption by a fat meat eater who lives in a mansion and jets around all the time. Who thinks that just because he has expensive equipment, these rules don't apply to him. I don't think a debate and helping those less fortunate to achieve his goal is too much to ask from someone making demands on all of us.

  77. Jo says – reply to this

    177

The Alliance for Climate Protection is Al Gore's OWN organization, dedicated to changing public opinion ABOUT climate change, not actually helping to develop new technologies to combat it or to prove that it even exists. The whole thing is a one-man army convincing people that physical science is wrong and Al Gore is somehow right. Hm.

  78. Star says – reply to this

    178

Battl- Wikipedia contains a huge list of scientists who disagree with you. Nuff said.

  79. Merry says – reply to this

    179

He's a politician. You can always tell when a politician is lying, their mouth is moving. What you didn't point out is that in 2007 Al Gore's house used 221,000 kWh while the average U.S. home uses only 10,656 kWh. And his energy consumption is up another 10%??? I think he's single handedly trying to cause global warming in order to protect all those business investments he made in "green" companies. His publicist is a total lying wanker.

It's quite 'inconvenient' to remember that Al Gore didn't do jack for his #1 concern - global warming - while he was in office for 8 years. His response to rising energy consumption is ridiculous; the residence completed a full 'green' renovation in 2007 yet the energy consumption is UP? *LAUGHS. Let's talk about his adventures via private jet and how those relate to his 'efforts', too.

Al Gore is a great person. The idiots who are bad-mouthing him probably voted for Bush — and look where that got us.

actually, every step of a leed certified project, including construction, has to maintain very strict guidelines regarding energy consumption.

Nobody can have a residence that uses 0 energy. Hes doing what he can to combat the large amounts of energy his house uses considering the fact its probably huge. I just don't get why they need a huge house. All their kids are grown up, they should buy a smaller place. It doesn't have to be an apartment but at least not a mansion. Two people in a mansion IS ridiculous. Just get a nice, small house in a private location!

You people can't understand the GORE! He works in mysterious ways. You must have FAITH that he is saving energy and leaving a teeny weenie carbon footprint based on his DEDICATION and CARING alone. Stop harassing these superstars with pesky facts. That goes for the Obamassiah as well.

despite the fact that I am NOT a fan of Al Gore, Global Warming and Global mis-use is very much a problem to the world - every other developed nation it seems but the United States keeps in mind how their policies and practices affect our entire planet, and not just environmentally. Yes, please, let's destroy beautiful natural resources so people who are SELFISH can drive Hummers and Escalades wherever they want while all over Europe and Asia people participate in the usage of public transportation, smaller homes in urban environments, unprocessed food and general conservations while WE Americans consider to respond in outrage when confronted by our greed and selfishness. Please believe (and RESEARCH) that the US is attempting to raise gas prices for a political agenda of drilling our own soil for gas.

What's really funny is a person listing wiki as their resource for more scientists who are against the global warming theory.
As listed, out of the thousands of scientists in the world, only three publicly believe it is not occurring or has ceased, another three believe the IPCC projections are inadequate, and about 22 believe that it is most likely a natural phenomenom. Now to underscore the quackery… I looked up more information on one of the scientists against the theory… Richard Lindzen.. he's also responsible for stating the following:

[edit] Views on health risks of smoking
Lindzen has claimed that the risks of smoking, including passive smoking, are overstated. In 2001,[25] Newsweek journalist Fred Guterl reported, after an interview with Lindzen

He'll even expound on how weakly lung cancer is linked to cigarette smoking. He speaks in full, impeccably logical paragraphs, and he punctuates his measured cadences with thoughtful drags on a cigarette.[25

Let's ask Gore how many SUV's are in his convoy's? How big is his house for how many people? How conscience is he? He sure isn't doing anything to help the food shortage problem. He's HUGE!!

omg… is right. the global warming issue is little more than subterfuge. there are several scientists who are more than willing to debate gore on the subject. one can bet that gore will never agree to a debate. gore also claimed he invented the internet. if you really wanted to do your part to help save the country you would educate yourself on the CFR, NAU/SPP the FEDERAL RESERVE and the NWO. stop buying into the hype. that's what our corrupt government is counting on.

Re: Douch – Gore has been speaking about this and sharing his information with whomever would listen for more then 30 years. Check your facts….he doesn't always get paid to talk about it and he certainly didn't get paid for it in the past. He, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were paid absolutely nothing at the event I attended in January….it was a christian convention and Gore made an eloquent presentation to remind all of us who are christians that this planet is a gift we need to care for and that's supported by the Bible.
