horrid crime - has nothing to do with equal rights though… the guy isn't going to get special treatment because he killed a transgender person.
I currently live in the city of syracuse and have my whole life. Someone made the comment about syracuse being full of republicans which I have to say I KNOW is NOT TRUE. I do admit there is a lot of violence and what happened to this woman is terrible. I just hate to see people generalizing about a whole city they obviously know nothing about.
This is horrible but if a person goes out with someone and does not tell then they are transgendered there is fight going to happen. People need to be up front about these things. I mean it is in a sense false advertising. Im sorry for the person who died.

wow, so many people made fun of this post. sickos. this is a tragedy, and perez actually is right. when gays, lesbians, transgenders, transexuals, whatever sexuality are truly accepted in all facets of society from the military to the workplace to the church, to marriage to adoptions, then only can we work together to stop all this hate and violence against people that are seen as "not normal." Remember it wasn't that long ago African-Americans were lynched and hung by their neck in trees and hello, anyone heard of something called the Holocaust? Same thing, and we need to move forward to crush legislations like Proposition 8 all over the USA.

I am from upstate New York and attend school in Syracuse, and I have to admit, the area isn't a great one. There are places where people are chill, but then there are also patches of rough areas that you try to avoid. Regardless of where this sort of hate crime happens, it is sad to hear about. I wish people could learn to stop all the hate..
This is sad, Perez. The most saddening part is that her own mother could not acknowledge that she lost a daughter - most likely a heterosexual daughter - and not a gay son.
