The investigation into Carrie Fisher's death took a turn on Monday when the toxicology report showed she had used cocaine within hours of her death, and somewhat recently heroin and MDMA as well.

At least, it was a turn for us.

For Carrie's brother, Todd Fisher, the news Carrie had been using again was not much of a surprise at all.

Like Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd, who responded to the news by renewing her mother's fight for honesty, to remove the stigma of addiction so that people wouldn't be afraid to seek help, Todd was "not shocked" by the news.

He told ET:

We didn't think it was possible for the loss of Carrie Fisher to be any more tragic, but this news does hurt.

It seems the Star Wars heroine never slayed the demon of drug addiction; the latest toxicology report from the coroner reveals she had cocaine, opiates, methadone, and ethanol in her system at the time of her death.

The cocaine use was determined to take place "sometime approximately in the last 72 hours" of Carrie's life.

The cause of death was ultimately revealed on Friday to be sleep apnea. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office noted both the drug use and Carrie's atherosclerotic heart disease as being possible contributing factors but could not say to what extent the substance abuse had an effect.

Ultimately the manner of death was ruled "undetermined."

We're sure Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd was hit hardest by the news. She released a statement to People, saying:

More information is surfacing regarding Carrie Fisher's death.

Last year, the Star Wars actress passed away on December 27 after suffering a medical emergency on a plane. The next day, her mother Debbie Reynolds tragically died as well.

As we reported, in January, Fisher's death certificate listed the cause as "cardiac arrest/deferred," but the coroner needed to conduct further toxicology tests to determine if drugs were a factor.

Fast forward to Friday, a new report says Carrie died from sleep apnea, and a combination of other factors including heart disease and drug use.

Although the coroner says she took multiple drugs, it's unclear if the substances played a significant part in her passing.

She will be missed.
