No, not like, “in memory of her dead husband.” We’re talking that he went unconscious at the controls and passed away right there, and the 80 year old woman had to land the plane herself!
This is so sad, and yet so incredible at the same time.
We are so sorry for her loss, but we are blown away that she could be brave enough to land the plane herself.
It was about 5pm when the cops got a call that there was a Cessna about 6 miles south of Sturgeon Bay that declared an emergency, and luckily they were able to get a plane up or redirect one to fly alongside her.
The certified pilot was able to coach the wife, and about an hour later her right engine ran out of fuel, but she was still able to land at the airport.
She did suffer minor injuries (the landing must have been super rough), and we’re sorry to say again that the husband passed away.
We’re just glad she ended up being okay!
