Adam Sandler Getting OSCAR BUZZ (!!!) For Cray Heist Thriller 'Uncut Gems' -- Watch The Trailer!

The time has come, Adam Sandler die hards!

Over the past half a decade, the actor has been giving audiences universally panned Netflix comedies thanks to his deal with the streaming service. After suffering through films like Murder Mystery and The Do-Over, many have given up hope the Billy Madison star will ever star in a quality film again.

Well, those critics can suck a fat Sandy Wexler — because the SNL alum’s new thriller actually looks incredible!

A24 (yup) dropped the trailer for Uncut Gems on Tuesday, showing Sandler as the blinged out Howard Ratner, a charming New York City jeweler on a mission to pander to the elite NBA crowd. As you can see in the trailer (above), Sandler’s performance is ripe for an Oscar nomination: he’s rocking a jewel-encrusted Furby necklace! He has blood on his face! He’s cheating on his wife (Idina Menzel)!

Yes, the actor is doing quite a lot in this Safdie brothers-directed thriller, and critics are noticing. Early reviews of the flick from the Toronto International Film Festival are quite encouraging; Vanyaland called it “a masterpiece” while Cinema Axis said Sandler delivers a “tour de force performance.”

Here’s what more critics had to say about the film, and Sandler’s turn as its central “f**cking crazy ass Jew,” as LaKeith Stanfield’s character puts it in one scene:

Hannah Woodhead, Little White Lies: “It’s a bruising, desperate anxiety attack of a film that rips the rug out from under you when you least expect it. And, because it really cannot be said enough: Adam Sandler is on the form of his life.”

Benjamin Lee, The Guardian: “My idea of Sandler and what he represents quickly faded once the film began.”

A.A. Dowd, AV Club: “It’s a performance as live-wire exciting as the one the Safdies got out of Robert Pattinson in Good Time. And the movie itself is exhilarating. Just bring a Xanax.”

Nate Adams, The Only Critic: “Uncut Gems is the equivalent of a cinematic anxiety attack taking its toll on your senses. Pop a couple aspirins, bring a reliable pair of ear plugs, and watch as Adam Sandler has just pushed himself into the crowded Oscar race.”

Whoa. Sounds like this might even make up for The Ridiculous 6! Ha!

Are U excited to see Adam Sandler NOT play Adam Sandler? Ch-ch-check out the trailer (above) and catch Uncut Gems in theaters December 13!
