Amanda Bynes' Conservatorship Means Her MOTHER Decides Whether She Can Even Get Married!

Amanda Bynes Engaged Getting Married Conservatorship Mother

We got a real Valentine’s Day shocker last week when Amanda Bynes revealed she had gotten engaged. Heck, we didn’t even know she was dating anyone!

The “love of her life” has since been identified as a man named Paul Michael, though precious little is still known about him, either.

All we’ve heard so far from inside sources is the couple met some time in late 2019 and that Amanda “seems happy.” (Though if we’re being honest even the insider quote didn’t sound super convinced on that score.)

We have learned something potentially problematic in regards to her pending nuptials. It’s not up to her!!!

Yes, in a frankly pretty disturbing, antiquated wrinkle, Amanda’s mother reportedly has the final say on whether she can get married or not! Yes, even though she’s 33 years old…

Remember, after her legal issues and trips to rehab the What A Girl Wants star was put under a conservatorship, with momma Lynn Bynes being given the legal reins over her daughter’s decisions — including entering into contracts like marriage. As attorney Neama Rahmani explained to Us Weekly:

“As Amanda’s conservator, her mother has responsibility over her daughter’s decision-making, including whether or not to allow her to marry. If Amanda’s parents did not consent to the marriage, they can petition the court to annul the marriage on the basis of Amanda’s ‘unsound mind.'”

Pretty messed up, right?

The last we heard back in 2018, the court extended the conservatorship all the way to August 2020… so it is possible at that time Amanda could get her legal status updated, followed closely by her relationship status. But for now it’s Lynn who gets to say whether her daughter says “I do.”

If you’re like us, this talk of conservatorships and their possible change makes you wonder just how Amanda is doing these days… Well, a new source tells Us:

“Amanda’s not currently working. She doesn’t have friends. And her relationship with her parents continues to be a roller coaster.”

We learned back in December Amanda was living with her folks again after leaving her program at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM).

According to this insider, her parents weren’t as floored by the engagement announcement as the rest of us were; when it comes to their daughter, well…

“Nothing Amanda does surprises them anymore.”

So what does Amanda have to say about what she’s up to?

In a new Instagram Story posted Tuesday night, the All That alum thanked her fans with an overall life update, saying:

“Sup, Instagram. Just wanted to say hi to all of my followers. I really wanted to say I appreciate you so much for supporting me.”

She said she was out with her student adviser from FIDM, giving hope she hadn’t abandoned her dreams of becoming a designer.

“I’m really looking forward to starting my clothing line, and I’m hoping that in the near future it will be out online.”

Awww.

Speaking of fashion, the vid gave us a clearer look at Amanda’s second face tattoo, a black heart just above her left eye to compliment the larger one below.

If she is trying to gain her independence in court later this year, adding more facial tattoos may not be the best way to sway conservative judges… just sayin’.
