Angela Bassett Joining Samuel L. Jackson In Broadway Debut

Angela Bassett joins The Mountaintop

We were pretty psyched to hear that Samuel L. Jackson would be making his Broadway debut this fall as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in The Mountaintop and we’re happy to report the cast keeps getting better!

Initially, producers wanted Halle Berry to portray Camae, a mysterious maid at the Lorraine Motel where King was assasinated, but due to her child custody battles with her ex, she couldn’t commit to the role.

Producers have announced they found a suitable replacement by casting Golden Globe winning actress Angela Bassett!

The play will premiere on September 22nd at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, but officially open on October 13th and is being described as:

“[A] gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After delivering his legendary ├óΓé¼╦£I’ve Been to the Mountaintop├óΓé¼Γäó speech, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious young woman delivers room service, King is forced to confront his past, as well as his legacy to his people.”

Sounds fascinating! We’re really curious to see how Samuel L. Jackson handles the role of one of the most inspirational civil rights leaders America has ever known…without dropping ANY F-bombs! Ha!

Are U psyched to see Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett perform this fall in The Mountaintop?
