New developments regarding Vittorio Missoni‘s disappearance have recently come to light and they might aid in locating the CEO, his wife, their two friends, and the flight crew that went missing on January 4 on a trip from the Los Roques islands to Caracas in Venezuela.
Authorities have revealed a blip on the Venezuelan Army’s radar may have definitely identified exactly where the plane went missing more than 10 days ago.
The Italian embassy said:
“It is an area where the ocean floor reaches a depth of 2,000 meters, considered too many for the instrumentations momentarily available. The Venezuelan and Italian authorities are coming to an agreement to continue the search beyond the expected eight days, focusing resources on a defined area and through means that may be more useful.”
For those of you who don’t speak metrics, 2000 meters is a little less than 1.25 miles.
On top of the fact that the plane had a long history of problems, reports indicate that the 72-year-old pilot, German Merchan, was not authorized to fly the plane as his psychophysical certificate had expired back in November of last year.
The reports also state that Transaereo 507, the company that owned the plane, “was not certified as a flight operator.”
If that’s the case, we can’t help but wonder if this whole thing could have been avoided.
As the Italian embassy said in their statement, further efforts to locate the missing plane will continue with the help of a unique oceanographic ship from Louisiana.
We are really holding out hope that this story has a happy ending.
