California High School Boys Hold A NFL-Style 'Draft' Where They Pay Money And BUY Their Prom Dates! WHAT?!

Coronal del Mar High School students have draft to select prom dates!
There are just so many things wrong with this we barely know where to start!
A group of boys at Corona del Mar High School have put a shameful twist on their prom by holding a NFL-style draft which essentially ranks the girls based on their looks!
The premise is fairly simple: Each boy randomly picks a number, and that number represents their “draft order.” For example, the student who gets the number 1 gets the first overall choice in which girl he wants to take to prom. Number 2 gets the second pick, and so on and so forth.
Strangely enough, the students don’t seem to see any issues with the objectification of their peers, and one student says girls, for the most part, go along with the boys who select them!
However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t odd moments, as one junior allegedly paid as much as $140 to get a higher draft pick so he could ask the girl he wanted! A student dishes:

“It’s awkward because he spent a large amount of money to go with someone he doesn’t talk to. And she finds it awkward that he chose her.”

Wow! These kids are LITERALLY putting a price tag on their female classmates!
Thankfully, the draft is NOT a school sanctioned practice, and when principal Kathy Scott sent out an email urging students to NOT participate in it!
Students say this isn’t the first year the draft system has been used, and because it’s not actually a school event there’s very little school officials can do to prevent students from participating!
This isn’t the first time Corona del Mar High School has come under fire, as they faced civil rights lawsuits in 2009 after a group of students released a video of themselves using homophobic slurs and allegedly outing one of their classmates. The school was criticized for not handling the situation properly.
It seems ridiculous that students are getting away with objectifying and openly judging their peers, regardless of whether they see the harm in it or not. And call us old fashioned, but isn’t the fun of prom asking your date out and going with someone you know ACTUALLY wants to go with you?!
