Demi Lovato Says Yes, She's Getting Body Shamed Since Telling Fans She Quit Her Diet...

Demi Lovato has been on a sort of cleanse this year — but the first thing she said goodbye to was her diet!
The Cool For The Summer singer has been open with her fans about the lifestyle change — but what spurred it in the first place?

The pop star diets she’d been on actually encouraged unhealthy behavior!
She explained to People:

“I had been on a really strict, regimented diet for so many years, and it felt like I didn’t have a lot of freedom with food. It would cause me to overindulge whenever I did get the opportunity, and I just felt like it was an unhealthy behavior.
I just thought to myself, why am I doing this? I’d rather live in freedom from any eating disordered behaviors or thoughts, and so I decided to just let myself enjoy certain things without feeling guilt or shame.”

Good for her!
When it comes to being candid with her Lovatics, that’s a real conscious choice:

“It was important to me to share that with my followers because there are so many people in the world who feel pressured by society and the diet culture, and I feel like someone has to speak out and say that you don’t have to force yourself to lose weight, or to look a certain way.”

Unfortunately, the response has not been 100% positive:

“The reaction has been great. There are some people who body shame me, and sometimes it’s difficult, but I say to myself, ‘Am I happy?’ and that’s the most important thing. And I want my fans to be happy too.”

Ugh. Imagine body shaming someone you know has an eating disorder. Sounds to us like they’re just the kind of jerks looking for an excuse to be awful.
The really ridiculous thing about all of this? Demi has NEVER LOOKED BETTER!
Yeah. We see those seksi Instagram shots. (And we aren’t the only ones who do…)
Demi says the key to keeping fit for her these days isn’t being strict — it’s being balanced:

“Balance is so important, and it kind of represents my life today and where I’m at right now. Moderation is key, and I work really hard but it’s important to stay active and take time for yourself, and take that time off.”

We have had our differences with Demi, but we will always have mad respect for how open she is with her struggles. This stuff is real and affects EVERYONE.
Thanks for being out there, gurl!
