Drew Carey is working through the grief of his ex-fiancée’s murder.
As we’ve previously shared, Amie Harwick died in February after falling from a third-floor balcony at her Hollywood Hills home. Her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse, whom she had a restraining order against, has been charged with her murder.

On Friday’s episode of The Talk @Home, Carey explained to the hosts why he has forgiven her killer:
“After Amie’s murder, I took a week off. Really, I couldn’t function and my first day back [at The Price Is Right] we taped the high school show for ‘Kids Week.’ It was the first show back and everybody knew what happened to me. And so, I took time during the break to talk to these kids. And I really wanted to do it because it was high school kids and I talked to them about how I forgave the guy who murdered Amie. He was mentally ill. He was abused as a kid. You have to be able to forgive people like that. I wish he never did it. I wish he never met her.”
Marie Osmond asked:
“Did that help your heart to process that with the fans?”
In reply, the 61-year-old shared:
“Yeah, it’s important for high school kids to hear, people in general to hear. I really try to practice instant forgiveness and unconditional love. The closest you can get to that, the better you are.”
Carey previously spoke about his grief process and how he still had love in his heart for Harwick despite them no longer being romantically involved:
“Back in September 2018, I was in a beautiful, great, best relationship of my life with a woman named Amie Harwick. She was a sex therapist and mental health advocate. She had a Ph.D. and a master’s degree, and she was beautiful and fun, and cared deeply about people and improving their lives, and was just a joy to be around. I was so in love with her. I just want to say, I’m so broken up. Even after we broke up, we still loved each other very much. Even though we broke up the engagement, I was still so in love with her. And she loved me back.”
We can only imagine how difficult this must still be to process for Drew and all of Amie’s loved ones.
