This is sickening.
On Thursday, a 24-year-old man from Florida named Cody Eugene Wygant admitted to killing his 16-month-old son for crying while he was playing an Xbox game.
The incident happened in Homosassa, Florida, and Mr. Wygant has been charged with third-degree murder and willful child neglect.
Initially police were summoned to the house by a phone call that said only the child, whose name was Daymeon, had stopped breathing. The infant was pronounced dead upon arriving at the Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center.
After a brief questioning by the police, the father admitted to suffocating the child, and was immediately hauled off to jail.
According to the arrest report, the disturbing details revealed that the father covered the child’s noise and mouth to stifle his cries which was disturbing his Xbox gaming.
And if that wasn├óΓé¼Γäót enough – he then carried and placed the child in a playpen, piling numerous blankets on top of the body to prevent the child from breathing. Even though that was most likely a moot point after he suffocated the child for 3-4 minutes.
Afterwards he gamed on the Xbox for another hour-and-a-half and watched three episodes of Fringe, before he called the police.
Here’s what Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said:
“It is inconceivable that a father could kill his infant son — it just baffles the mind. Our only sense of relief now comes from knowing that we did exactly what we needed to do to bring justice to him swiftly. Our prayers go out to those who knew and loved Daymeon.”
Although the father has no criminal history in Citrus County, it was discovered he has quite an extensive one in California including charges of rape and trespassing.
The unnamed mother of the child was Cody’s girlfriend, and they both are the parents of a 3-month-old daughter. No word yet where the mother is, but the daughter has been placed in the Florida Department of Children and Families.
We hope this monster gets a huge sentence, and lives to be a hundred years old, living each day just thinking about taking the life of his own child.
