Garry Shandling's Former Fiancée Reveals Why They Broke Up AND Why The Late Comedian Refused To Have Kids

Garry Shandling‘s former flame is having a tough time after his tragic death.
The Larry Sanders Show star passed away unexpectedly last week, and now his ex-fiancée Linda Doucett is opening up about the devastating loss.

The actress revealed to InTouch that she had spoken to the comedian not long before his death, and remembered the horrible moment she found out he was gone, saying:

“I called Garry and it went straight to voice mail. So I went to the hospital ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ it all happened so quickly. I didn’t even think it was real. We’ve been through a lot together and were very close. It’s shocking.”

Even though the lovebirds had split up over 20 years ago, the former Playboy model admitted that they were still sorting everything out, and were on good terms.
She also recalled the last time they spoke, adding:

“We were friends. We were in touch the whole time, until last week. We were working on our issues, trying to put everything behind us and move on. There are some things in life where you don’t get complete closure. But the last time we spoke, he said, ├óΓé¼╦£We’re working on closure,’ and we both laughed and said, ├óΓé¼╦£Maybe in the next life.'”

The Michigan native revealed that the reason she and the late celeb didn’t stay together is because he refused to have kids.
She dished that he was afraid his children would end up dying from serious illnesses, explaining:

“The only reason we broke up was because I wanted a child and Garry didn’t. I was 40 and really wanted a baby and he was afraid of having a child because his brother died of an illness [cystic fibrosis] and he was always afraid that his child could have it.”

But an insider told the mag that Garry realized later in life that he actually did want a family, and wished he had one after all.
The confidante confessed:

“He loved women but he did regret not having a family. He loved his life, but that would probably be his main regret ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ never settling down with a wife and having children.”

After he and Linda broke up in the ’90s, she was fired from The Larry Sanders Show. However, it looks like they repaired their relationship — for the most part — before his death.
