Halsey Reveals She's Been Committed TWICE Since Her Music Career Began!

Halsey Mental Health interview

Halsey is really opening up about her mental health battles.
In a new interview in Rolling Stone‘s July issue, the Bad at Love singer reveals she’s actually been committed to mental institutions twice since first rising to fame in the music industry.

Revealing how “no one has known” about her decisions to seek mental health care in that manner, the Nightmare singer opened up a bit about how she’s not ashamed by it; rather, she views it as a form of self-care which allows her to fix problems head-on and avoid larger issues down the line.
She revealed (below):

“I’ve been committed twice since [I became] Halsey, and no one’s known about it. But I’m not ashamed of talking about it now. It’s been my choice. I’ve said to [my manager], ‘Hey, I’m not going to do anything bad right now, but I’m getting to the point where I’m scared that I might, so I need to go figure this out.’ It’s still happening in my body. I just know when to get in front of it.”

Wow!
Of course, there’s a lot at play here for the superstar singer; she spent a large portion of her past on the run, living place to place without ever really having a fixed home.
Halsey has also been the victim of sexual abuse — the after-effects of which have persisted to this day.
She noted (below):

“Here’s what’s f**ked up to me: A young man seeks success and power so that he can use it to control people, and a young woman seeks success and power so that she no longer has to worry about being controlled. It’s an illusion, a f**king lie. There is no amount of success or notoriety that makes you safe when you’re a woman. None.”

Very true!!!
And when you do talk about it, you get labeled — something Halsey says she’d rather avoid:

“And then I’m not ‘Grammy-nominated pop star,’ then I’m ‘rape survivor.’ Uh-uh, no. Uh-uh, absolutely not. I have worked way too f**king hard to be quantified or categorized by something like that.”

The star also openly acknowledged her past, revealing more about how she went day to day and eked out an existence on the fringes of society — including what some would consider prostitution (below):

“It, of course, turns into this hyperbolized fantasy of ‘Halsey the Hooker.’ I didn’t have a pimp, no one was handing me money. But I was definitely dating dudes I wasn’t into because I could crash at their apartment. I was having sex as a means of survival. I’m lucky that that’s all it was for me; for other women I knew, it wasn’t just that. That’s the point I was trying to make.”

Wow… This Grammy-nominated pop star has definitely seen some stuff.
We’re glad Halsey is strong enough to open up about seeking help — it may be the most important thing you do one day.
