Crazy Volcanic Eruption Spewing Lava Forces Hawaii Residents To Evacuate, Officials Say 'No Sign Of Things Slowing Down'

Hawaii’s Big Island has turned into a scene from a Roland Emmerich film ever since the Kilauea volcano erupted last Thursday.
Over 1,700 locals were ordered to evacuate their homes last week after cracks miles away from the volcano sent lava shooting up from the ground in a residential neighborhood.
Ten fissures (cracks in the earth) have emerged since Thursday and continue to burst out lava and dangerous fumes in the Leilani Estates neighborhood.

The Civil Defense Agency said 26 homes had been destroyed as of Sunday evening — and, alarmingly, no one knows when this natural disaster will blow over.
Hawaii County civil defense administrator Talmadge Magno warned there was “no sign of things slowing down,” telling CBS News:

“That’s the sad part about it. It could be happening for a long time, or on the other hand, like I said, mysteriously it could just end.”

Some of the residents are hesitant to leave their homes, but officials say those who stay face many dangers; aside from the lava and toxic fumes, the region is also vulnerable to increased earthquake activity.
