Shocking Statistics About American Toddlers And Screens

Isn’t cute when your baby plays your ipad?
Everyone is like, “oh, a baby with an ipad! Adorable!” But we should be saying “Take that way from her!”
Giving your young child too much screen time is harmful, and according to a recent study, everybody is doing it so it’s not as cute as you think.
Some 39% of 2-4-year-olds use a smart phone or tablet, and more than half (52%) of kids ages 5-8 do so.
It is the first of a series of reports from Common Sense study that,
“examines media use among the youngest generation. Today’s infants and toddlers are growing up surrounded by screens, TV screens, computer screens, smartphones, iPads, and console game screens.”
According to the survey, most kids start watching TV when they’re 9 months old. Yikes.
The study found that 42% of kids eight and under have TV’s in their room, and almost a third (30%) of kids two and younger. But there is also a teething ring-tone set, with 10% of children under a year old having used a smart phone, video iPod, or iPad/tablet.
The study found that kids 8 and under spend reading and music, but the majority of it 2 hours and 16 minutes a day watching TV — and about another hour playing games or reading off a screen.
The only good(ish) news: This may be the only time kids from lower income families have a real edge!
Only 14% of lower-income parents had downloaded an app for their kids, compared to 47% of upper income parents.
Still, this is only adding the the obesity epidemic of American children. We need to help our kids by actually spending time with them, and not letting the TV raise them for us.
