Teen Mom's Tyler Baltierra Reveals What 'Scared' Him Into Putting Daughter Up For Adoption All Those Years Ago...

Tyler and Catelynn Baltierra giving up their first daughter for adoption is maybe the biggest decision they ever made in their life, one that has had consequences for years now.

And now, 16 years later, with the recent issue of Carly Davis having her adoption closed and Catelynn even being blocked by her adoptive parents, it’s got Tyler reminiscing about his own past… and how his own father’s absence played a role in his fateful choice.

In the newest episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the 33-year-old father of four opened up about his childhood — and his strained relationship with his father, Butch Baltierra.

While speaking to his mom, Kim, at the top of the episode, he revealed his dad was in and out of his life a lot growing up due to his time in jail. He said the fact his dad was never around instilled a fear in him about being a father for his own children:

“I knew the huge amount of importance that this role has and I was just so scared to screw it up because I knew I wasn’t in a position to change too much stuff because I was so young.”

Of course, he and Catelynn were only 17 and 16 respectively when Carly was born. So young, as he said! It’s no surprise he was so nervous about being a good father to his kid — he was just a kid himself. So sad.

Despite it being “five years” since Tyler has seen his dad, his mom encouraged him to reach out. She even mentioned how Butch hasn’t even met the couple’s youngest daughter, Rya. Later in the episode, when dropping the little one off for her first day of school, he got super emotional, admitting in a confessional:

“If I could pause life right now and just stay here for as long as I can, I would do it. Not having my dad around has a lot to do with why I even placed Carly in the first place. I was just so scared to screw it up and I think that was a catalyst for me and Cate wanting to heal our stuff before we brought more kids into the world.”

Aww…

So sad. We’re glad to hear Tyler is trying to break the cycle of estrangement with his own children. And it’s clear he and Catelynn are succeeding with the kids they have now. Reactions, Perezcious readers?
